Extracurricular Internships

Extracurricular internships represent a valuable opportunity for students seeking to broaden their academic training and take their first steps into the job market. Although they are not a mandatory requirement for graduation, at SHIFTA by Elisava we offer Master’s and Postgraduate students the possibility to undertake these internships voluntarily during their studies, in order to gain practical knowledge, develop professional skills, and obtain a closer view of the business environment.

SHIFTA by Elisava does not provide or actively search for companies for internships, as these are extracurricular. However, we manage internship agreements for those students who have arranged an internship with a company, provided they meet the detailed conditions and requirements.

What are the conditions for undertaking internships?

  1. Extracurricular internships can last a maximum of 900 total hours throughout the entire Master’s or Postgraduate program.
    • During the academic period, students may complete up to 25 hours per week.
    • During the non-academic period (holidays or summer), students may complete up to 30 hours per week.
  2. The internship agreement must include at least 65 hours of internship.
  3. Up to a maximum of 3 extracurricular internship agreements may be carried out. These can never be done simultaneously, must take place within the duration of the program, and cannot exceed a total of 900 hours.
  4. Internships must be carried out exclusively within Spanish territory or in European Union countries.
    • If you are doing your internship outside Spain, you must take out travel health insurance to cover your entire stay.
  5. Internships must end at least 15 days before the official end of the program to allow for proper evaluation.

All students must have a Social Security Number (NUSS) before starting the internship. You can apply for it online if you have a DNI or NIE, at the following link to the Social Security Treasury.

What are the administrative and legal requirements for internships?

  1. Internships must be formalized through an agreement between the school, the student, and the company. Internships cannot begin without the agreement signed by all parties.
    • To start the process, the student must contact the school, once selected by the company, by sending an email to internships@elisava.net.
  2. Internships must be paid. There is no minimum remuneration established.
  3. The company is required to register the student with Social Security for the duration of the internship.

Which students can apply for internships?

  • Spanish students residing in Spain or in any European Union country.
  • Students from any European Union country residing in Spain.

To apply, all students must have a DNI or TIE/NIE and a Social Security Number (NUSS). You can apply for the NUSS online, if you have a DNI or NIE, at the following link to the Social Security Treasury.

How are internships evaluated?

At the end of the internship, the student must complete two documents to be evaluated by the academic director:

  • A report on the activities carried out during the internship period.
  • A report from the company supervisor, which must be submitted to the student’s academic supervisor (the director of the Master’s or Postgraduate program).

These documents will be attached to the confirmation email of the signed agreement, along with the medical insurance that covers you in case of an accident.

Internships will be evaluated as PASS or FAIL. At the end of the internship, if it has been evaluated positively, you may request an Internship Certificate to accredit your training.
