A certified copy is a photocopy of the original document, certified by a competent authority with their seal and signature, confirming that it is a true and exact copy of the original.
The competent authorities for certifying documents are as follows:
- In Spain: a public notary or the issuing university of the degree and/or academic certificate.
- Outside Spain: a public notary or the Spanish Consulate in the corresponding country.
Why Must I Submit a Certified Copy?
The ELISAVA Academic Management Unit, responsible for reviewing and verifying documents, requires storing the documentation submitted by students for legal reasons. To avoid the risk of loss, damage, or misplacement of the original document, it is essential to submit a certified copy of your documents.
Submitting a certified copy ensures that the original documents remain safe, while the certified copy meets the legal requirements for academic verification.
Which Documents Must Be Certified?
The following documents must be notarized:
- Diploma of the degree granting access to the Master’s program. If you do not have the diploma, only issuance receipts or substitute certificates of the degree will be accepted.
- Personal Academic Certificate of the degree granting access to the Master’s program. Academic transcripts or other related certificates will not be accepted. In Latin American countries, this document is also referred to as a Grade Record or Transcript of Records.
